![]() ![]() That’s how I write a lot of my most powerful blurbs. I wrote that blurb, the one I used when I published the book in December 2015, in one go. I don’t know why he came into my life, but he was there, and he was real. I wasn’t interested in anything with a penis, but I could sure write about one. But I wasn’t really enamored with men at that point in my life, so I didn’t care. A full-blown, fully-formed, real man who had something to say and a story to be told. He had no name at that point, he was simply an energy. Sitting on that bed in the Secrets Dominican Republic resort, drunk, in my bathing suit, wrapped in a towel, Creighton Karas stormed into my mind. I was young and stupid, but thought I knew everything and yet still had so much to learn. I was drunk on Coco Loco in the Dominican Republic, where I had run away 36 hours after filing for divorce after almost 11 years of marriage. The memory of writing the original synopsis of Dirty Billionaire is still emblazoned in my mind in vivid, living color. ![]()

The new bill does not define what is not consent, but rather what is: “Consent will only be understood to exist when it has been freely manifested through acts clearly expressing the individual’s will, considering the circumstances of the case.” This notion has been popularly expressed as solo sí es sí or “only yes means yes.” Spain already has punishment for non-consensual sex acts, but there is no definition of consent in the criminal code, which requires proof that violence or intimidation were used to determine the existence of rape. The three great monarchies of Europe had fallen. By the end of that conflict, not only had the Austro-Hungarian Empire crumbled but the other two imperial rulers of Europe, Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany and Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, had lost their grip on power. The assassination set in motion the events that led to the outbreak of the First World War, one of the bloodiest conflicts in human history and a trauma that would bring down the Austro-Hungarian Empire, ending nearly eight centuries of Hapsburg rule and unleashing unrest across the European continent. ![]() ![]() ![]() “On 28 June 1914, the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne was assassinated on a visit to Sarajevo by a Serbian nationalist called Gavrilo Princip. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The two processes have come together to produce a new species of intelligent dolls called "fairies" who are being manipulated by artificial intelligence constructs to take over the world (creating their own "fairyland") and eliminate their human creators. Psychological plagues are spreading throughout the human population through the use of microscopic "fembots" that can alter behavior and personalities, and these are traded like illicit substances and used for psycho-warfare and manipulation. This is actually a chilling near-future dystopia tale about nanotechnology and genetic engineering running amuck, with some remarkable ideas by McCauley that give you the very uncomfortable impression that they could possibly come true some day. ![]() Don't let this novel's fey title fool you. ![]() ![]() ![]() Lorenzo in Lucina, Costanza was resident in the street "behind the palace of the church" - the current via della Vite - with her father Leonardo and her step-mother, Tiberia. The six frigates of Toll's title were the Constitution Congress, Constellation, and United States, all broken up in the 1840s and 50s and Chesapeake and President, both lost in stunning defeats by the British - the Chesapeake in a single ship duel under the eyes of eager spectators from the headlands of Cape Ann and Cape Cod. "Nothing chases, nothing intercepts, nothing engages them, but to yield them triumph," lamented the London Pilot. When two more British frigates were lost to the Americans within the next four months - Java to the Constitution in October, and Macedonian to the United States in December - and some 500 merchantmen taken by year's end, the British reaction was shock and dismay. Toll recounts the event in "Six Frigates," the boat men hailed other boats "and the victory passed along till it reached the shore, and then spread like wildfire." And as the ship entered the harbor, "the roar of artillery mingled with the sound of church bells swinging in their belfries, as the news passed from mouth to mouth." As the frigate Constitution approached Boston Light in August 1812, crewmen standing at its rails hailed a small boat sailing nearby, shouting the news that it had defeated the British frigate Guerrière.Īs Ian W. ![]() ![]() ![]() The romantic aspect was a nice addition to the bleakness of the story. I enjoyed seeing the bonds between the sisters and how they coped and responded to situations. One thing is though, I wish a certain character wasn’t so predictable. If someone shows an interest, it’s for our money. I didn’t expect it to be creepy, but I’m glad it was even though I had to stop reading when it’s too late in the night lol! The story pulled me in right from the beginning with the murder mystery aspect. The setting was atmospheric with a dark and eerie feel.
